S.R. DeBoer and His Family Legacy

Our Grandfather was a prominent landscape architect in and around Colorado and the West until his death in 1974. We have created this website in order to address the many untruths currently being perpetrated on the local community by neighbors of our family’s property.

You are invited to form your own opinions based on the first-hand information and facts we provide you. Nobody knows better than his very own family, the contributions our Grandfather made to our community. We urge you to look at both sides of the story, taking into account that we actually knew our Grandfather, S.R. DeBoer, and the efforts of our neighbors to paint us as distant and uncaring are truly inappropriate. We have been a constant presence on our property for 86 years and are currently being forced to defend our dedication to his legacy by those who have only been in the area for 15 years and who never met our Grandfather.

We do not know why our family, S.R. DeBoer’s family, would be treated with such hatred and hostility if those perpetrating the lies really do hold our Grandfather with such high regard, as they claim. Our neighbors have instigated a hate and smear campaign against our family (they veil it as an attempt to preserve history), thus creating a lynch mob mentality within our community. While we have offered to speak with our neighbors and explain our situation, they choose to only speak to those who are like-minded, hold secret meetings (without inviting us, S.R. DeBoer’s family) and continue to make our family out to be against historical preservation and crazy enough, tree and animal haters, among other things. The family has never had any plans to demolish “The Office” and has never stated such a thing. We value its existence and hold high affection for it, since we grew up in and around it.

We appreciate that our Grandfather has been included in regional history books. We believe that, although books have shown the great things our Grandfather contributed, there is really only so much one can learn from such a book. In our opinion, if people really wanted to learn about S.R. DeBoer, the man, the first order of business would be to talk to those who knew him best, his family. To date, this has not happened. Therefore it is clear to us that our neighbors are just using our Grandfather’s legacy for their own personal gain.
