The sleepy southern state of Louisiana is now ranked as the third most prolific film producing region in the USA, with only California and New York pumping out a greater volume of films; so it’s perhaps not surprising that it has earned the name ‘Hollywood South’, sometimes abbreviated to ‘HoSo’.

The film studio Millennium Films recently set up base in Shreveport, further strengthening the industry. Recent films to be made at the studio include: ‘The Cleaner’ starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris and Eva Mendes, which follows a crime scene cleaner who gets caught up in a murder cover-up, and then joins the widow of the victim to attempt to catch the killers. ‘The Mist’, a horror film based on Stephen King’s 1980 novella of the same name was another major film to be made in Shreveport. The plot follows a small-town community that comes under attack from a variety of strange creatures after un-naturally thick fog envelopes the town.

One of the reasons why Louisiana is so attractive to film makers is the price; by offering generous tax incentives, the state has managed to lure production teams away from more well known film-making locations. Previously, New Orleans overshadowed other cities in the region as a hub for movie making, but the devastating effect of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 forced producers to look for alternatives close by, and Shreveport became the new hub. The ubiquitous nature of Shreveport has been the key to its success: its beautiful old homes and generic streets mean that it can double as almost any city in the USA - a valuable asset in the world of movie making.

Actors and actresses working in Shreveport have also praised the Southern hospitality they have been show by the locals, and the fact that the paparazzi seem to be less of a problem in ‘HoSo’. Movie fans are overjoyed to be seeing big names walking their streets, and can sometimes be seen waiting outside hotels in Shreveport, hoping for a glimpse of their favourite movie star - they are usually not disappointed.

Even five years ago, to hear names like Samuel L. Jackson or Meg Ryan mentioned in the same sentence as Shreveport would have been unheard of. Few believed that the city would ever be more than a sleepy southern settlement. But now, everybody, from the New York Post to the LA Times are talking about Shreveport, with major film makers and Hollywood stars continuing to head south to ‘HoSo’.

British TV viewers are increasingly abandoning the traditional ‘tube’, or in many cases their flat screens, in order to watch their favourite shows where and when they want. As technology keeps up with the pace of the people, what else is in store for TV entertainment in 2008?

According to a recent survey conducted by independent research specialist, Tickbox, more British TV viewers are not tuning in to watch TV during their regularly scheduled time and are increasingly choosing to watch their favourite shows “on demand”. On demand is a service which allows users to watch TV shows and films at the click of the remote control. This new service is allowing people to abandon previous TV watching schedules and watch programmes at a time more suited to them.

According to the research more than a third of British TV watchers are now regularly using their on demand services which is nearly twice as many as just last year.

When asked why users are choosing to use their on demand services almost two thirds reported feeling that traditional TV watching by rigid schedules restricted their viewing. Those surveyed also used on demand to watch programmes they missed, to overcome schedule clashes and to make their TV viewing more flexible.

Another big player on the TV scene, and predicted to make further advancements, are the web TV services that were launched this past year. These services allow users to watch on-demand TV on their computer; but although users still prefer TV Entertainment via their TV screen than on their smaller PC screens, the use of these on demand players online can not be denied and future growth is predicted.

The growing popularity of social networking websites like Facebook, Bebo and MySpace are furthering the growth of TV viewing over the internet. Users can use these sites to send their friends clips of the choicest moments of TV and videos from sites like YouTube. The rise of social media sites which allow for sharing videos only serves to further increase the amount of time people essentially “watch” their computer.

An area that has been so far uncharted territory in British programming is mobile and wireless TV. TV on mobiles has long been discussed and some say is still a long way from becoming main-stream, although mobile network ‘3′ has already begun limited TV broadcasting across their coverage. This could be a technical area that becomes a reality in the coming year. Although studies have shown that people currently have little or no interest in tuning in on their phones, as handsets become more advanced this may soon be history.

As people take more advantage of TV flexibility many question the life expectancy of traditionally scheduled TV. Although the end of regularly scheduled programs will not be seen in 2008, it is a possibility in the future when all TV will be on demand; either through the TV set, on the PC, on mobiles and other devices.

For Immediate Rhythmic Release: January 18, 2008

Enter Music Publishing Paradiddles to NAMM With Special “Bonham to Bonham Interview” That Cues Up The Past And Covers Drum History As It Was Made

San Jose, California—Enter Music Publishing, publishers of diverse, hip drum/percussion magazines, such as DRUM! DRUM! Interactive, TRAPS and HOW TO PLAY DRUMS, has made available its February 2008 DRUM! Special NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers) Show Issue. It features an innovative tribute the drumming legacy of John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) including a joint interview involving John and his son Jason.

The interview (printed in a special minibook bound into the issue) celebrates the compelling 40-year old hold that John Bonham has made on the imaginations of drummers worldwide, and his son Jason’s recent powerful performances with the reunited Led Zep.

The History: “The Son Also Rises”
Since John passed away in 1978 it’s logical to ask how one could interview the father and son together. This editorial sleight-of-hand was accomplished by asking Jason and John the same interview questions twenty years apart. Back in 1993, DRUM! Editor Andy Doerschuk conceived the double interview between Jason and John Bonham. He asked Jason the exact same questions that John had answered in an interview twenty years before—and then published the answers side by side. The editorial result was both compelling and prescient. Though Jason had performed once with the remaining members of Zeppelin in 1988, no one knew then that in 2008 that Bonham Jr. would take over his father’s chair with Led Zeppelin. The original John and Jason interview has been updated and re-edited for this special issue.
“Like our 25-page opus to John Bonham that appeared in TRAPS Issue 3, which completely sold out, “Like Father Like Son” will surprise and inspire drummers of all ages,” said Phil Hood, publisher of Enter Music Publishing.

Elsewhere in the issue, DRUM’s February 2008 cover story explores the career of Zach Lind of powerhouse pop band, Jimmy Eat World. The feature of Lind discusses and investigates the group’s chart-topping emo sound even though Lind insists in the issue’s cover copy, “We never call ourselves emo, and never have.” You decide after reading this intriguing cover story.
There is also a report on the new band Another Animal, a project of Godsmack skinsman Shannon Larkin; a comprehensive buying guide of solid shell snare drums; and, a roundtable discussion with five of Nashville’s top studio hand drummers, Tom Roady Eric Darken, Ron Sorbo, Sam Bacco and Glen Carnuba. Of course, it also includes the usual assortment of educational features from DRUM!, including a look back at hot licks of the legendary Miles Davis drummer Tony Williams.

“We think this issue of DRUM! Is one of our best in terms of the diversity of drummers covered,” said Hood. “From the double interview of Jason and John to more contemporary drum stars, we expect our current subscribers and new readers to be highly impressed,” Hood continued.
For this year’s NAMM Show, Enter Music Publishing will deliver an additional 8000 copies of both DRUM! and its sister publication, TRAPS. The company’s booth number is 3543.

With this special NAMM 2008 issue of DRUM!, and all of its publications, Enter Music Publishing is well positioned to capitalize on the growing drum industry. According to
figures from the American Music Conference and Music Trades magazine, the drum industry has annual global sales of approximately $1.25 billion, and the United States accounts for up to 45 percent of that total.

About Enter Music Publishing
Founded in San Jose, CA in 1992, Enter Music Publishing, Inc. is a leading publisher of drum/percussion magazines, with distribution in 40 countries. DRUM! is the flagship publication of Enter Music Publishing, Inc. and continues to set the industry standard for editorial quality and innovation. In addition to DRUM! and DRUM!
